New Designers 2017
On 28 June I visited my Common Threads colleagues who were exhibiting at the New Designers show in London. The first thing to say is that it is HUGE! As well as all the institutions with their degree shows, there is a 'one year on' section for designers who have become established since being at ND the previous year. Beware! One year on is a selling show.
The standard of everything textile, weave, knit, and jewellery and ceramics was stunning. So much creativity on show that in one albeit 6 hour visit I felt I hadn't done it justice at all.
The Bradford stall looked great, thanks to lots of hard work by tutors and HNC and BA textile students.
Some pictures below of work from other stalls a which caught my eye:

Textile art, made from toilet paper, cocktail sticks, brush bristles, thread and carpet underlay, burnt at edges for colour and texture - really inventive and effective.

Sue Christian, Kandy Diamond (knit tutor) and Margot Bromley, enjoying a glass of bubbly. This was before Zandra Rhodes admired Margot's knitted neckpiece and asked Kandy to show her some interesting hand screen printed fabrics!
