COMMON THREADS

And the sun also rises

Perhaps you're like me, and respond to the appearance of the sun rather more than everlasting grey skies. It has shone today, making the tasks of preparation for our final collection that much more enjoyable. For this , Project 6, I have been able to further develop some techniques and stitches that I have used in other projects. One is from our very first project, inspired by a particular small shell, which became known as Sydney. Isn't it good to know that anthropomorphism is alive and well? This is Sydney

And here he is!

And this is the first piece that I made from him

On revisiting, the technique of short-row working was appropriate for this current piece of work, but I wanted to make it more subtle, differently sized and perhaps less threatening.

This is designed to be worn rather than just as a textile sample. The yarns in this instance are lambswool and fine merino, as opposed to the synthetic gimp yarns used for the earlier sample. The added softness and malleability of the finer spun natural yarns allows movement and sculpture. When this is seamed, I'll photograph it again being worn.
